Comfort

Comfort…

Of my slippers…

Of a cup of hot chocolate…

Of a crackling fireplace…

Of the decorated Xmas tree…

Of the blanket of snow…

Of carolers singing…

Of warm woolly mittens…

Of your company…

Of memories of years…

The comforts of my soul.

This poem says it all. Comfort… Where do we find it? It is a feeling that comes from being with the people we love, from being around the things that put you at ease; things that are regular in your world. When the world outside seems tough, it’s nice to come home to your sacred space; somewhere that you can relax in. Certain people also can have a calming effect on your mood. I carry rocks and crystals to bring me comfort and courage. Take comfort also in the spirit world. The angels watch over us all the time. Never forget that!

Poem to Music

If this poem was set to music

Would you be enthusiastic,

Or would it be a one-hit-wonder

Full of thunder

But no follow thru

From anything new?

I try to make it special

Instead of dreadful,

But the public is fickle,

It puts me in a pickle

As I try to entertain

And not to be distained,

I hope you like it.

Songs are just poems put to music. Listen to the lyrics. Savour the emotions behind the words as they blend with the notes of the song. So much can be said in so little time. The beat makes the feet move and then people learn the words and sing along. There is freedom in a poem. So much can be said. Words are an artform. Everybody uses them. The poet crafts them into meaningful expressions, which the listener hears and interprets. Music makes the words speak louder, and the whole world listens to music. So sing your song. Don’t be shy. You’ve got so much to say. People will listen.

Why Wait?

Why wait for the sun to shine?

Why wait for the ice to melt?

The world still turns on its axis,

The water still flows in its bed.

The more you wait on the edge of a cliff,

The more your strength of will grows.

When rivers and planets

Flow and spin in their space,

The time for action’s movements

Are in the present’s place.

Don’t dwaddle in indecision

Plan to activate motion’s gift,

And blow a kiss to your miss.

You will be for sure on her list.

In these times of Covid-19, there is definetly a lack of physical contact in the world today. Instead of a handshake, a hug, or a kiss, we are elbow-bumping. There is the question of how to have a relationship without touching. Eventually, life will get back to “normal”, and we will have more freedom. One thing this epedemic has made us aware of, is how easily disease is transmitted from one person to another. And there will always be some illness that comes up that the human being does not have an immunity for. There is a time and place for every challenge and success. There is nature too; it has resiliancy and tends to change the evolution of its creatures to combat different climate or health issues. The main thing is to have hope, and not loose focus for the future. Take care of yourself and be concious of the needs of the whole.

Nite’s Shadow

A scraggly branch

Is silhouetted

Against the face

Of the full moon.

Sitting regally still

On the tree’s limb

Is a shadow.

Great saucer eyes

Watch the land beneath,

Patiently waiting

For the night’s dinner

To scurry by.

As the shadow

Spreads giant feathered wings

 And quietly coasts

Through the evening air,

The ground below freezes

In fear

As death glides by.

We have come to the spookiest time of the year. As creatures light up the night, they seem eerie and unnatural. I always carry a flashlight to scare away the shadows on a nite like this. I hope to focus on guiding my soul home through the darkest moment of the year, when the sun is moving away from Earth, cooling the air considerably. The rains have come and we as human beings have created the holiday of Hallowe’en to give us some fun in spite of the season. Chocolate and candy are sweet and take our attention away from the dark. Don’t forget your pumpkin to guard the nite. All souls’ day is a celebration of rejuvenation and release for the souls that need to move on to the next level. Remember your loved ones that have passed on. It helps them live on in memory.

Moon Magic

The radiance of the full moon

Makes me swoon

And sway

Throughout the day.

What a pretty sight

That just might

See vows sworn

Until past the morn.

Hours of the moon’s glow

Can make things just so,

A big heart

That’s too smart,

That feels real

And does appeal

To the mind’s eye

To really spy

Feelings that matter

Throughout the night’s chatter.

Sometimes it is hard to tell if love has arrived. Is it the Moonlight that makes us all a little heady? The Moon, lovely lady that she is, affects more than just our hormones, she affects things like the tides, the migration patterns of birds, and the planting and harvesting of the land. The Moon is at a certain place when a person is born, that’s why (along with 8 planets and the sun) no two people are exactly alike. Astrology can read your chart of planet placement and, fairly accurately, can predict what kind of person you are. But, the Moon is gorgeous and glows. It’s mesmerizing. There is a reason they call it “lunacy”. And of course, everybody knows that the Moon can make a person crazy. But, such is love.

Life’s Strife

The pressures of life

Can have a lot of strife

That pulls at the edges,

And waits on ledges

At the height of tall skyscrapers,

That seems like Spiderman capers

Seen on TV

That scare me

Into compliance

With an alliance

Of a trusted friend.

Hope its not the end

And that we can bend

What we send

To a lasting

Fasting

Of all good things.

Life has pressures, that’s for sure. But interesting how a simple wildflower, who only exists for a short time, has only the sunlight and rain to worry about. The wildflower reseeds itself and allows new generations of its species to continue on into the future, while sharing its universal spirit with it’s offspring. What purpose does the wildflower have, except to be food for bees and butterflies and other flying things, like the hummingbird? There is beauty in the simple wildflower. And, just like all living things, it is not just something we pluck, but is also something to be admired in Nature’s creation. It’s a reminder that we are like the wildflower in our basic human nature: We too need food as our sunlight and water as our rain. As we blossom into adulthood, we too must plant our seed and continue our species through our children. Sadly, like the wildflowers power of reproduction, humans, too, have become plentiful. I am not sure that this Earth is big enough for all of us without some clever land management. We need to be stewards of the land, just like the wildflower, by feeding the small creatures and building root systems that hold the soil together for the world.

Facing the day

Facing the day

With a brave way

Is inspiring to us

That witness

The strength of your stance

As you choose to dance

To the strummer

Of a new drummer.

I wish I could see

The power of we

As into the future

Is the mindful cure

Of all the troubles

That infect our bubbles

And peace transpires

 Thru all the world’s wires

And love will reign

Again.

Why is there strife, hatred, and disregard for the beauty of the natural world? Today’s world news talks about things that are foreign to my basic human nature. Even the people that are standing up for issues become just as tyrannical as the people instigating things. Why can’t the world just get along with each other? There has always been disagreements in the world, because everyone thinks their way is the best. A balanced government, neither extreme right nor left wing, is the only way to have all voices heard. The balance starts with the individual. If we all find Zen, there would be no conflict, and peace would reign. Just some thoughts as I think and wonder about the state of the world. Things start with the best intentions. I just sigh and wonder what I can do to help the world. Little things like composting, recycling, and making use of thrift stores, are a few small ways to reduce my carbon footprint. Love is the answer to all the world’s questions.

Never Give Up

Never give up

Although things seem bleak,

Trust in your truth

It will see you through the week.

To new times and faces

In many different places,

As the world waits

To meet and greet

The dawn’s new day

And the moon’s nighttime graces.

May adventure overtake you

And put you at peace,

From stresses

That presses

Upon your well-being streak.

In Life, there are challenges. Sometimes, things occur that stump us or frustrate us. It is important to try as hard as you can, and never give up! Wonderous things can occur if only you persevere and go for the gusto. When deciding how to tackle your situation, it is important to weigh all the foreseeable options, to arrive at the answer that works for you. If you are unsure what to do, sleep on it. The answer will seem clearer in the morning. One thing that helps is a cheering section – friends, family, co-workers, and significant others. Needless to say, use your inner strength to guide your way through life. And remember, never give up on your dreams!

The Race

The horses are all standing at the gate

Pawing and snorting as they wait

For the bell to ring

So they can take wing

And make their way around the track,

Neck and neck on the way back.

Excitement ripples thru the crowd

As the favorite is announced aloud.

“It’s a photo finish!

Cash your tickets for the winnins’!”

This is a gambler’s game

That’s how it got its name.

Life is like a race. It can be so exciting if you let it be. For a while I volunteered to play a game of horse races with the seniors (it is a boardgame). The seniors would get so energized with the game, and I would be absolutely pumped, as I facilitated the game. It didn’t really matter who won because we were just there to have fun, and a jackpot of nickels became the incentive. I think the biggest jackpot we had was around $2.50. Regular horse racing at the track is fun, but easy to lose. The jackpots are higher dollars and the money put out on bets is phenomenal compared. I love horses. I always have. Mankind has relied on them for many millennia. Hard to believe that they are strickly for the rich now. There was a time that horses were everywhere. Progress called cars, changed the odds. Now horses are purely for entertainment purposes. Sad really. Maybe one day they will make a comeback. I hope so.

The Inspiration of Creation

Poetry is the inspiration

Of different colors of creation,

That blends and swirls

Into little curls

Of painted spots

Of which there are lots.

Words and pictures

Cast similar lures

With images caught

With every thought,

And songs of rhythm

Bring much precision

With a four-quarter beat

That really moves the feet.

Poetry, like both art and music, is an amazing avenue with which to be creative. When a person creates, they express the colors of their personality. The colors, words, and rhythm, tell quite a bit about the character of the creator. Mood, emotion, and thoughts themselves can inspire a person. No two creations are alike, because every person expresses themselves a different way. If we had no technology, the world would be overrun by individual creations, because humans need an avenue to keep busy. It’s too bad creativity usually doesn’t pay much, unless you are famous. But, don’t let that stop your outflow of creativity, the world needs your voice, be it through poetry, art, or music.
