Cracking the Egg

Little baby bird

Taps relentlessly

On the encasing shell

That surrounds it.

Trapped inside,

It labours

To see daylight’s first rays

And breathe the outside air.

Momma bird

Patiently encourages

Her struggling offspring

To overcome

Life’s first challenge

Of cracking the egg.
